El Jardin del Paraiso
My favorite neighborhood garden is El Jardin del Paraiso, located between E 4th and 5th Streets, and Avenues C and D....and it's my fave because it's home to several friends: chickens, pigeons, fish and rabbits! There's also a tree house, vegetable garden, creek bed and quiet nooks to read a book or take a nap...truly an oasis in the middle of a busy city.
Fuzzy!
Nap time...
Chillin' by the creek...

237 Elizabeth
If you're ever in need of a place to stay in NYC, be sure to look up my friend, Thomas Cat, at 237 1/2 Elizabeth Street:
His name is on the door...
Oops, No Vacancy!
Well, as you wait for that room to be cleaned, check out the window to the right in which you'll find a miniature replica of the entire building, complete with security guard:

Grand Dame of Grand Street
This is one of my favorite city cats...
Hard at work, guarding the fish!
And, reaping the rewards of a hard day's work.

Bionic cat
We are just a few steps closer to taking over the world!
Oscar the Cat was enjoying a warm summer snooze in a field when a combine chopped off his legs. !!!!!
The BBC reports that Oscar underwent special 'bionic' surgery to attach prosthetic feet.
Get well soon, Oscar!

My new favorite blog
Who knew NYC had so many awesome birds of prey? Origin of the Species documents them, as well as many other birds, in an up-close and personal way. Many of us only catch glimpses of these beauties from the ground, so the photos on this site are quite stunning. Oh, how I'd love to snuggle up with these guys!

Australian Cleanup Crew Eradicates Banksy Rat
From the NY Times:
". . . a street-cleaning crew in Melbourne, Australia, painted over a mural by that pseudonymous graffiti artist and provocateur. The Associate Press reported that Susan Riley, the deputy lord mayor of Melbourne, dispatched street cleaners to the city’s Hosier Lane after residents complained about squalid conditions at an alley known for its displays of public art. Among the works painted there was a stencil of a goggle-wearing rat, created by Banksy during a visit to Melbourne in 2003 – and removed by the crew, which was instructed to remove all graffiti from the area."

Well, it's not the first time Banksy has been whitewashed. In fact, he's been known to do it himself:

Working cats keep the rats at bay
From the NY Times:
To Dismay of Inspectors, Prowling Cats Keep Rodents on the Run at City Delis
"Across the city, delis and bodegas are a familiar and vital part of the streetscape, modest places where customers can pick up necessities, a container of milk, a can of soup, a loaf of bread.
Amid the goods found in the stores, there is one thing that many owners and employees say they cannot do without: their cats. And it goes beyond cuddly companionship. These cats are workers, tireless and enthusiastic hunters of unwanted vermin, and they typically do a far better job than exterminators and poisons."
